the todd harrison rock archive these things i believe this is a collection of my music-related "rants." some originated on the previous toddharrison.cjb.net site, some come from my (now-defunct) online diary, some were school projects, and some were none of the above. quite a few of the "rants" (especially the older ones) seem embarrassingly idiotic to me now, but since this is an archive i present them here -- mostly unedited and virtually unabridged. the essay mp3s (part one) was written in the fall of 1999. my opinion has since changed (mp3s (part two), featuring said changed opinion, is coming "soon"). i wrote a rant about music theory in the summer of 2000, shortly after the first breakup of trucks leaving. my piss-take of punk rock is from late 2000, though it could apply to any era of punk and still be valid. the how to be a music snob article was originally published in the spring of 2001 on a website for a prospectus magazine by students working on the ryerson review of journalism. i adapted the html from the rrj site's original coding. subsequent to its original publication, the article found its way around the internet in a most remarkable way. i most certainly have a love/hate relationship with radio, and narrowcasting was my first attempt (made in may 2002) to put my feelings on the medium in writing. i just felt that the question in american idle (or if lou reed had won the prix de rome) needed to be asked in september 2002. i was briefly employed as a music scribe for the now-defunct sonicmonk.com. this was the only feature i was assigned before the site went under. here's a review i wrote for sonicmonk.com. sonicmonk.com sent me to a jello biafra live appearance, and here is my review. top :: home |
