the todd harrison rock archive sins, vices october 1999 who do we think they are? lover you know (soothe me) weeping for jada simon says flagrante delicto shame joyriders me: acoustic and electric guitars, vocals, bass, piano, loop, percussion in the autumn of 1998, i realized that almost all of my songs were mindless, shitty teen pop crap and that i needed to start fresh. this album contains my first attempts at "mature" songwriting. the departure of my old ideas and stylistic impulses also prompted a change in how i viewed recordings. jarvis features sparse instrumentation and a tight, concentrated mix with few surprises, so that someone in a 1988 buick with one busted speaker could still enjoy the record. i subsequently decided that that was a stupid theory, and made sins, vices into my version of a "headphone album." parts of it even surprise me, and i get the feeling when i listen back to it that i was really "playing" with new sounds and ideas. finally. top :: home |
