this one was a long time coming. courntey told me about quarks and their properties and fabulous handles in 1996, and i wrote it all down and did nothing with it for three years. then i told danny about my quarkestration concept, and he wanted it for his own. this kicked my ass into gear, and i swore i'd record a quarks-inspired tone-poem for inclusion on ghost in 2001. but i couldn't get it right, so i shelved it again.
then, in the summer of 2003, dov took off on one of his summertime adventures and betty and i didn't want to stop practicing. so one day, we were at her house and i said "well, i have this thing i've been working on..." and we wrote "up," "down" and "charmed" in about 20 minutes.
when dov came back a few weeks later we finished writing the other three sections, then we arranged the hell out of it and performed it a couple of times. then we arranged the hell out of it again. and then again. and again. finally, we laid it to tape (well, to computer, but "tape" sounds cooler). we could keep arranging
the six flavours of quarks forever, but i kinda think it's best to just let it rest for a while. there is, after all, so much new music still to be made....
