1997 shows

sometime in february
battle of the bands
st. mary’s secondary school, cobourg
as "vince and todd"

players:
me: electric guitar, vocals
vince o’kane: bass, vocals
beth muir: backing vocal on "sugarhigh"
set list:
blister in the sun | violent femmes
i let go
words fail
watching tv | roger waters
high school superstar
sugarhigh | coyote shivers
i remember this set really well because it was my first gig in front of a significant, attentive audience. vince and i practiced a grand total of three times, and on the night of the show he came to me and said "todd, i forgot all the songs" so i had to re-teach him the chords 20 minutes before we went on. but it was probably the best show i ever played. i remember coming out on stage and breaking into "blister in the sun" and realizing that i'd never heard my voice through a p.a. before. and then there it was. i felt like i was high for the whole set.

sometime in july
beyond the bean cybercafe, cobourg

players:
me: acoustic guitars, vocals
approximate set list:
i let go
eleanor rigby | the beatles
angel
wish you were here | pink floyd
hour and a lifetime
free fallin’ | tom petty
high school superstar
brandon reminded me of this show, and between the two of us we kinda figured out the set list. it was at an art show. i remember one guy in the front row really dug my stuff, and he bought my tape afterward. my head could barely fit through the door.

sometime in august
warkworth cheese factory, warkworth
as "confessions of a teenage fake"

players:
todd - electric guitar, vocals
probable set list:
blister in the sun | violent femmes
burn
nautical disaster | the tragically hip
tripped and fell
the lines you amend | sloan
i let go
big me | foo fighters
song 2 | blur
future
american music | violent femmes
high school superstar
a day in the life | the beatles
i don’t remember much about this set (found the list on an old disc in my desk), except that it was in a parking lot at a cheese factory in the middle of bloody well nowhere (actually, a 10-minute drive from my old house). brandon's band was supposed to play but didn't, and i got a couple of cobourg bands to travel to warkworth and play. i think about 40 people showed up, though most of them were off smoking pot behind a dumpster the whole time.

more stuff coming soon!
