angel
high school superstar
american music | violent femmes
this was the worst set i ever played. i organized this whole damn show (10 bands in total) and i had too much to do to really prepare. jesse's keyboard had to be put through a guitar amp and it sounded like crap, and my pickup shorted out during the first song and i had to play the whole set with my mic pointed at my acoustic (which i hate). but this show is significant for me because it's the first time i ever played in public with my acoustic guitar -- my folkie debut, if you will.

also likely in february
campbellford 30-hour famine
st. john's united church, campbellford

apparently this happened. i totally forgot about it, until i found a picture taken (likely by robyn) during my set. somebody, please: fill in the blanks.

march 12
beautiful songs by beautiful songwriters
beyond the bean cybercafe, cobourg

players:
me: acoustic guitar, vocals
probable set list:
just like rain
without you
future
high school superstar
tears
angel
castles made of sand | jimi hendrix
hour and a lifetime
american music | violent femmes
this was the night i met and opened for ben sures and paul bellows, two songwriters i've come to deeply respect and whose music is very close to my heart. i remember it was a great show -- a bunch of my friends all showed up, and my mom was there. but ben and paul (obviously) stole the night. they were amazing.

april 17
battle of the bands
c.d.c.i. east, cobourg

players:
me: acoustic guitar, vocals
probable set list:
just like rain
hour and a lifetime
angel
losing my religion | rem
burn
trying too hard
no one else | weezer
high school superstar
this one's kinda hazy. i was the only non-punk act on the bill, and most of the crowd wasn't paying attention. but a coupla people came up to me after and said they really dug my stuff and thought it was a nice change. i think that's the one event that inspired me to keep going more than anything else, so you can thank or slap those folks as you see fit.

spring
spring coffee house
st. mary's secondary school, cobourg

same deal as the 30-hour famine show (above) -- somebody (probably jill) took a picture during my set. the photograph clearly shows mr. blainey's anger at my t-shirt, which subverted the calvin klein logo to read "fuck fashion." anybody remember anything else about this show?

sometime in june
beat poetry and acoustic punk
beyond the bean cybercafe, cobourg

players:
me: acoustic guitar, vocals
approximate set list:
just like rain
hour and a lifetime
american pie | don mclean
can’t move on
angel
wish you were here | pink floyd
tripped and fell
for believing in me
american music | violent femmes
this one's the cloudiest of 'em all. i remember that my girlfriend at the time was really pissed at me, so i dedicated this set to her and spread flowers all over the stage while i played and stuff. and i remember that i met this girl while i was busking a few days before the show and gave her a flyer and she came and brought three friends. at the end of the set, i jumped off the stage and ran to this strange girl -- and not my girlfriend -- which made the whole set a moot point and shoved me even further into the proverbial doghouse.

more stuff coming soon!
